Databricks Migration & Modernisation Engineer

The Hague, Netherlands - 3 days onsite per week

€600 per day

We're looking for an experienced Databricks Migration & Modernisation Engineer to join a major enterprise data-platform transformation programme in The Hague.

You'll help accelerate the migration and modernisation of legacy data workloads onto a modern Databricks Lakehouse platform, combining hands-on engineering with the development of reusable migration tooling and patterns.

You'll be responsible for:

• Migrating and refactoring legacy data pipelines and data models
• Building scalable Databricks Lakehouse / Medallion architectures
• Developing production-grade pipelines with Spark, Python/Scala and SQL
• Working with Delta Lake, Unity Catalog and DBT
• Building reusable migration accelerators, templates and utilities
• Developing repeatable engineering and migration patterns
• Data validation, reconciliation, testing and performance optimisation
• Reviewing existing workloads and recommending appropriate migration strategies
• Supporting technical workshops and design reviews
• Working closely with engineers, architects and business stakeholders

The technical environment in the brief spans Databricks, Spark, Python/Scala, advanced SQL, DBT and modern batch/streaming architectures.

What we're looking for

You'll be a senior, hands-on data engineer with strong experience across:

Databricks | Spark | Python | SQL | Delta Lake | Unity Catalog | DBT | Lakehouse | Medallion Architecture

Crucially, we're interested in people who have worked on large-scale migration and modernisation programmes , rather than purely BAU data engineering.

Experience building reusable engineering frameworks or migration accelerators will be particularly valuable.

The programme is also looking at how GenAI and agentic AI can accelerate data migration and engineering .

Experience using AI for code conversion, refactoring, documentation, testing or workflow automation or building AI agents/engineering assistants is highly desirable.
