Without compromise. /p h3The Role /h3 pThis is a Backend Engineer role for someone who wants to build complex financial infrastructure from scratch. /p pYou’ll work directly with our engineering leadership to implement payment flows, build tax calculation engines, and create the systems that power international commerce. You’ll contribute to product and technical discussions, challenge assumptions, and help guide our technical direction. /p pWe’re building the infrastructure that lets businesses sell globally without the usual pain. That means payment processing, multi-currency ledgers, real-time tax calculations, merchant onboarding, and AI-powered compliance tools. Hard problems with real scale. /p h3What You’ll Get /h3 pYes, the work is intense. But in return, you’ll build critical financial infrastructure that handles hundreds of millions in volume. /p pYou’ll have significant input into technical direction, work with a small team of experienced engineers, and shape how Outpost scales. If you want to go deep on payments, tax, and fintech infrastructure, this is the role. /p h3What You’ll Build /h3 ul liPayment processing infrastructure handling hundreds of millions in volume /li liRobust ledger and reconciliation systems /li liTax calculation engines for multiple jurisdictions /li liReal-time transaction monitoring and risk systems /li liMerchant onboarding and integration frameworks /li liPlatform connections with major e-commerce systems /li liAI/LLM powered taxation tools /li liAI/LLM powered fraud and risk tools /li /ul h3What You’ll Do /h3 h3Technical Development /h3 ul liWrite high-quality, maintainable code /li liImplement core payment and financial systems /li liBuild secure, scalable backend services /li liContribute to system architecture discussions /li liHelp establish engineering best practices /li /ul h3System Design Implementation /h3 ul liDesign and build robust payment processing flows /li liImplement internal ledger and reconciliation systems /li liCreate merchant integration frameworks /li liDevelop automated monitoring and alerting /li liHandle secure financial data processing /li /ul h3Cross-functional Collaboration /h3 ul liWork with product team to refine technical requirements /li liContribute to API design and implementation /li liCollaborate with risk and compliance on system requirements /li /ul h3Example Projects /h3 ul liImplement a multi-currency ledger that handles real-time reconciliation /li liCreate the tax calculation engine for a new jurisdiction /li liDesign the merchant onboarding flow and integration framework /li liBuild AI-powered tools for automated tax classification /li liImplement real-time fraud detection and risk scoring /li liCreate automated reconciliation systems that catch discrepancies before they become problems /li /ul h3Ideal Background /h3 ul liFluency in a JVM-based language, preferably Kotlin /li liTrack record of implementing complex backend systems /li liStrong engineering fundamentals and coding practices /li liBonus: experience building financial, payments, tax, or compliance systems /li liBonus: familiarity with e-commerce platforms /li /ul h3Signals We Care About /h3 ul liYou write high-quality code and care about maintainability /li liYou can design systems, not just implement them /li liYou’re comfortable with ambiguity and figuring things out /li liYou contribute to technical discussions and challenge assumptions /li liYou want to build from scratch, not maintain existing systems /li liBias for action.
