The position

As an  AI Engineer  at agap2, you take on the challenge within an international environment with a local focus. Key Responsibilities

You will help design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and integrations that power modern digital experiences, including AI-driven conversational solutions. In this role, you will contribute to both traditional backend systems and innovative AI-powered initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams in a complex retail environment.

You will take ownership of solutions from initial design through deployment and ongoing operations, ensuring systems remain reliable, maintainable, and scalable.

• Design, develop, and maintain Kotlin-based backend services, APIs, and integrations
• Build and support systems behind real-time conversational experiences, including AI-powered chatbot solutions
• Integrate Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities into production environments
• Take full ownership of services from architecture and implementation to deployment and operational support
• Develop reliable integrations with existing systems and ensure stable, consistent data flows
• Collaborate with Product Owners, engineers, and business stakeholders to transform ideas into scalable technical solutions
• Contribute to both AI-driven initiatives and traditional backend platform development
• Ensure backend systems are scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable within a large retail ecosystem
• Promote engineering best practices, code quality, and operational excellence

What you bring to the position

• 8+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer (strong candidates with 5+ years are also encouraged to apply)
• Strong experience with Kotlin and backend development
• Hands-on experience with Spring Framework / Spring Boot
• Willingness to work with Python when needed, particularly for AI and LLM-related use cases
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
• Proven experience building and maintaining APIs, backend services, and system integrations
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• A DevOps mindset, including experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and end-to-end service ownership

Nice to Have

• Experience working with AI/LLM integrations in production systems
• Experience with event-driven architectures and real-time systems
• Knowledge of retail or large-scale enterprise environments
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and performance optimization tools.
