Job Responsibilities:

Background - We need data engineering and governance stewardship support in building customer domain data products , including building pipelines, data quality management, governance frameworks, metadata, and stakeholder enablement. This includes driving adoption of data governance standards, ensuring discoverability and clear data definitions, and collaborating with product and engineering teams to improve data reliability and usability.

Describe the scope of the consultant’s assignment. This role lies at the intersection of data engineering, analytics engineering, and data stewardship. We are looking for a candidate who brings all skills, but we are also open to applications from strong candidates who are primarily experts in one area and possess the basics in the other.

The scope of the consultant services is to assist:

- Building, improving, and maintaining ingestion/transformation pipelines in SQL/Python, including ad-hoc analytics

- Defining and maintaining data quality rules, tests, and dashboards (using dbt/Elementary)

- Leading root-cause analysis for data quality issues and following up on corrective actions

- Maintaining business definitions, harmonization rules, and metadata across datasets

- Reviewing data models, data contracts, and data mappings for alignment with governance standards

- Presenting data product, data quality and governance insights to stakeholders

- Close collaboration with the core team (data engineers and data stewards) as well as software engineering and product

Requirements:

Desired knowledge, experience, competence, skills etc Technical and Analytical Skills

- Data engineering fundamentals, incl. writing pipelines in dbt or Python and production-grade code on cloud platforms (GCP preferred)

- Hands-on experience with either BigQuery or PySpark/Databricks (both are a big plus)

- Data management and querying using SQL; familiarity with dbt for modelling and writing/evaluating data quality tests

- Basics in data visualisation (ideally Data Studio, PowerBI would be a big plus)

- Experience with data quality frameworks: defining rules, writing tests, investigating failures

- Knowledge of data structures: data models, databases, data warehousing, and how data flows across systems

- Experience with customer data (profile data, events such as purchases and interactions) is a strong plus

- Knowledge of data governance frameworks, metadata management, and data cataloguing best practices is a plus

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

- Collaboration: strong communication skills to work with Country Data Management Leads, Product Owners, Data Engineers, and Software Engineers

- Presentation skills: ability to present findings and reasoning through dashboards, Miro, and other tools

- Constructive problem-solving: ability to assess data issues, identify owners, and drive resolution through stakeholder collaboration

- Ability to translate business requirements into data products, data quality rules, and governance standards

- Proactive mindset: there's still a lot to figure out, and we need someone excited to lead that and able to cope with uncertainty
