At the University of Groningen we want our staff to continue to develop. We encourage them to follow training programmes, courses and guidance programmes. The University offers these internally, for instance via the Talent Development Project which provides courses, advice and supervision in the fields of writing academic publications, obtaining grants and applying for academic positions.

There are also opportunities for personal and professional development outside the University. We encourage our staff to spend some time abroad. The University has alliances with many universities abroad and we also participate in European mobility programmes enabling exchanges of staff.

The University recruits talented academic staff via the tenure-track system. This is a ten-year career path leading to a professorship. In addition, our Rosalind Franklin Fellowship programme encourages top female scientists to enter the tenure-track system.

The University of Groningen is a research university with a global outlook, deeply rooted in Groningen, City of Talent. Quality has had top priority for four hundred years, and with success: the University is currently in or around the top 100 on several influential ranking lists.
